Favouring the sustainable over the temporary, style over fashion, and creativity over the same old approach, the wearer of our boat shoe is a modern man.

Looking to innovative materials to help minimise our carbon footprint and create a collection that is as sustainable as it is classic, the result is an ethically sourced collection with soul. We handcraft all our footwear in Brazil and look to the vibrant city of Rio for inspiration.

Our Story

Our story begins in Brazil, with Leo. Born into a family of Italian heritage and a long shoemaking tradition, Leo, grew up in Franca, a small city in the South East of Brazil.

While studying in Europe, Leo spent a summer in London, where he noticed the enduring popularity of the classic boat shoe, a style his father had been handcrafting in his hometown for over thirty years.

Recognising the iconic shoe had changed very little in that time, Leo - emboldened by his family heritage and footwear know-how - set out to reinvent the classic style; returning to Brazil - where in 2011 - Docks Rio was born.

In 2015, Docks Rio took their first step towards international expansion by opening an office and distribution centre in London.

Materials & Craftmanship

Here at Docks Rio, our efforts are focused on providing our customers with a premium shoe that won’t cost the world. We are committed to maintaining sustainable manufacturing practices, which apply to every stage of our shoe’s production, from the sustainably sourced, organically tanned, Tilapia leather that makes up our signature upper to the fair wage our craftsmen are paid.

We share with our customer the desire to buy products from a source that doesn’t harm the environment, which is why we only work with tanneries that share our commitment to conserving the local natural habitat, and family-owned factories that provide the highest welfare to their artisans.

Our shoes are handcrafted in Franca by a talented team of shoemakers, using only the finest leather and innovative materials, all sourced from Brazil. Using traditional methods of craftsmanship, the artisans hand sew each pair to create footwear that doesn’t compromise on comfort, durability or style.
